FAQS
• How much do you charge? What does the session include?
For pricing information please visit my pricing page in the menu above. All of our packages include session and a download of all the hand finished images, unwatermarked in high resolution with print release. the high resolution files of your pictures.
• What is the ideal age for a newborn session?
I prefer to photograph babies who are between 7 and 10 days old. Newborn babies at this age sleep more and are easier to pose, which helps the sessions run quicker and easier for you and your baby. It also allows us to achieve a wider variety of poses, often similar to those of the baby inside the womb.
• How soon should I book a session?
You should book a session as soon as you know you would like one. I will add your due date to my calendar and will plan to have your session about a week from that date. Of course, I know that due dates might change. I just ask you to notify me of any changes as soon as you can so I can accommodate my calendar to make time for you.
• Once I book a session, when do we schedule the final session date?
Once I have booked your session, I would really appreciate it if you contact me within 48 hours after delivery so we can decide what date is convenient to you and finalize your session schedule. I typically shoot on weekdays and leave weekends for my family, though some weekend sessions are available.
• Where does the session take place? How long does it take?
Depending on the package booked, sessions typically last between one and three hours and take place in my home studio, located in Cary, close to the intersection of Hwy 55 and High House.
• How many pictures should I expect from your session?
The number of pictures varies depending on our “little guest” and what type of pictures the parents would like to have. If a baby is restless or finds it difficult to get off to sleep during the session, we might not get all the poses that we want. If the session includes sibling and/or parent shots, and depending on how quickly we get through these, you might get fewer newborn poses from your session. If you would like to schedule more time to get the most from your session, please feel free to let me know and we can work out the details for a tailored session to suit your needs.
I believe in quality over quantity. For a standard, newborn session, I generally provide 25-30 unique, beautifully processed, hand-finished pictures. I take a lot of care for each individual picture and I focus on providing a selection of high quality images rather than a large number of average ones.
• When should I expect to see my pictures?
It takes me about 3 weeks to process your pictures.
• If I have already had my baby, is it too late to book a session?
Not at all! If you've already had your baby you can get in touch and we will get you on the schedule as soon as we have the earliest opening.
• Are family or sibling sessions included?
It depends on the session you book. Luxe sessions include family and sibling photos and Midi sessions include either a family or sibling portrait. Please note, these can take a good amount of time to set up and shoot and so cannot be included in a Mini session. Please keep in mind that very young children (aged 4 and under) may not want to be photographed alone with their baby sibling and, while we will do our best to make it happen, we do need their cooperation to make these photos come together. We will not force the situation if toddlers or pre-school children are uncomfortable taking these photos.
• What should we wear to the session?
If you have scheduled parent or family photos, please come camera-ready and wearing neutral or pastel colours. Keep it simple so avoid plaids, stripes busy patterns and bold colours such as red and orange. Also, moms may want to brush their hair and put on some light makeup. This may sound a given but when caring for a newborn sometimes these things suddenly seem less important and often get overlooked!
• Should we bring any clothes or props?
I provide all the clothing and props needed. If you have any specific requests for personal clothes or props you would like to incorporate into the session, please let us know as soon as possible so we can plan accordingly.
• How can we best prepare for the session?
It's best to time things to try and keep your newborn awake for an hour before the session and, depending on how far away you live, plan to feed your baby just prior to leaving your home or when you arrive at the studio. If you are nursing, it is best to keep a bottle of expressed milk on hand for use during the session. Likewise, if you are bottle feeding or supplementing with bottled milk, having a few on hand would be great to ensure baby sleeps as much as possible during our time together. If you are open to using them, pacifiers are also really helpful for soothing your baby during the session.
• Do you do maternity sessions?
Absolutely! You can either book a standalone session or add it to your newborn package. These take place at the location of your choice.
• How much are your hand-finished artisanal prints?
All of our packages include session and a download of all the hand finished images, unwatermarked in high resolution with print release. the high resolution files of your pictures. However, you can buy professional, archival quality prints directly from your personal online gallery. Prices vary from $9.99 for a 4”x 6” to $107 for a 16”x 20”.
